FCP 6 Projects Not Opening in FCP 5!!?? please help!!!!! its for school!!!!

hey everyone heres the problem
my schools digital labs have fcp 6 and i started editing my project there, but when they closed i went home and i have fcp 5 and i tried to open my project on my computer and it wouldnt let me, is there a way to get past this so i can edit or am i S.O.L
any help or explaintions we be awsome thanks:dankk2:
 
ya there is a way to open later versions on earlier versions, but it required a few more steps.


it basicly means you have to save as (export .... XML .... version 2 or 3 depending on what version of fcp 5 you have. ) 2 for 5.0 and XML version 3 for 5.1.1 and up i think.



now comes the tricky part..... to do this... go into your Browser window, and DESELECT EVERYTHING.. (MAKE SURE YOU IN THE RIGHT PROJECT FILE).... so make sure no one file is selected.... go to Export ... XML.... select version 2 ...


this will make an xml file that earlier versions can read.

ya apple should take notes from avid on this one. more specifically, digidesign pro tools, made by avid. when they update the software, they allow you to save your projects to be compatible with earlier versions.
