FCP 6.0 - clips losing synch!!

I recently upgraded to fcp6.
several of my clips are not in synch.
I'm working in a 23.98 timeline and the clips in question are 23.98 clips as well.
when I play the quicktime file they are fine, but in FCP they are not.
Looks like the clips start off in synch then lose it... badly.
 
Where are you seeing the sync break, in FCP or on an external source? And what are your playback settings?

Quicktime is fine.
In FCP the clips are not in sych.
What do you mean by my playback setting? The sequence is 23.98 and the vid rate of the clip is 23.98. is there something else i need to check??
 
In your Audio/Video settings in FCP. On the first tab, at the very bottom (below all the Capture Preset, Sequence Preset stuff) there is a "Video Playback" and "Audio Playback" pull down menu. This is meant for external playback purposes, but is important that its correct to maintain look, sync, etc.

oh yeah that's fine too.
video playback: apple firewire NTSC (720x480)
audio playback: Firewire DV

90% of my clips are fine!!!
 
yes, it's a nightmare!!!

in the timeline the audio seems fine but the video is sped up sometimes...
other times it's just simply not in synch and i have to move the video over 2-4 seconds.

it's like i'm back in the days of FCP 3.0!!
