FCP 5 and Editing HD...

So...

I've been thinking of upgrading from my DVX to a DSLR to finally start shooting HD, the problem I'm afraid of running into has to do with handling the HD footage. I'm editing on a G5 with FCP 5 (ie. no Prores). Do I need to upgrade my entire machine and Final Cut system to edit HD, or is there an option that includes keeping my existing set-up?
 
Yes, and yes. Intel with FCP 7, ingest DSLR footage as ProRes LT, you'll rock. That G5 just ain't gonna cut it much longer, figuratively... The Log & Capture plugin from Canon to use with there DSLR's requires an Intel CPU.
