FCP 5.1.4 Stopped Opening

All of the sudden my FCP stopped opening. The icon bounces around for a few seconds, the menu loads for a few seconds and then the menu disappears. I've tried restarting a million times and looked into a FCP rescue file and that won't even open properly.

Does anyone have any idea what I should do besides re-installing Final Cut?

Repair your permission...

You probably have serious issues with your system drive that need to be fixed. Permissions is a good way to start. Use DiskUtility in your Utilities folder.

THEN... try running FCP Rescue (5) again. TRASH preferences and start FCP again. Make sure you start it from the APP itself and not the icon in the dock. Trash that dock icon NOW. When you have it up and running again put it back.

I repaired permissions, but don't know how to trash prefs.

Are you using FCP Rescue? This little app will also let you SAVE your preferences for later use. Once you trash them... set up all your favorites, keyboard shortcuts etc and open FCP Rescue AGAIN... then hit BACKUP. Next time you have to trash your prefs you can use this to RESTORE your backed up prefs.
