i'm having a serious problem, and i'm on a trip out of town and need to edit a project. whenever i try to open up "log and capture" with my camera hooked up to the computer, FCP quits. If i do not have the camera attached, "log and capture" will open up.

I just updated to OS 10.4 the other day, and this is the first i have tried to edit since, i think it may have something to do with it. i already tried trashing preferences, using disk utli. The only thing i have not tried is a re-instal since i am on the road and do not have my install disk.

Any help would be awesome!!!! i really need it!

I haven't been watching it too carefully but doesn't 5.1.x and 10.4.9 have issues? We're all on 5.1.4 here, but have kept OSX at 10.4.7. I thought I recalled reading people complaining of issues soon after the 10.4.9 release. But that was a while ago now so its all kind of blurred. But that might be something to search around here or for, or to Google for.

Just to clarify, you were previously on 10.3.x and 5.1.4 and could log and capture with out any problems with the exact same setup? The only difference between the "working" and "not working" scenarios is that you upgraded to 10.4.x? You didn't change anything else during that span and its the exact same rig (you were't previously on a tower and are now on a laptop)?

cheers.

yup, that is it. Since i'm on the road, i'm editing on my labtop, which i havent used to edit with since the update to 10.4 Updating to 10.4 is the only thing i can thank of that has changed.

I sent 3 hours googleing the problem and could not find anything other then one post by a user with the same exact problem, but no one had an answer for him.

Only thing I could recommend on the road is to also upgrade to 5.1.4 for Final Cut Pro. Then trash your preferences and load up FCP and try again. Hopefully that should get it for you. If its still wonkers then you might need to actually re-install OSX when you get home and don't upgrade past 10.4.7.

Rule of thumb is never upgrade anything mid-production. We have so many idle FCS2 boxes lying around right now because we don't want to take the risk. Even with 5.1.4, I think we held off for over a month before bothering to upgrade to that.

cheers.

yea, i hear ya on the never upgrading mid project, thats why i did right before this project but then hit the road before testing my laptop. I edit 99% of the time in the studio so i completely forget to check out laptop.

anyway, i got it working. I just went through all software updates and made sure i had the lastest version of quicktime. For some reason a few software updates were not showing up at first under the apple menu, but once they did, it all worked fine.

thanks.
