FCP 5.1.2 P2 Import bug SOLVED

This is so simple it makes me smack my head. Who knows why I didn't try this in the first place. Here I am jumping thru hoop after hoop trying to update the firmware on the camera (which I did, BTW...I'll blog about how to do that later, and link to the file you need as it was a ***** to track down) and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT.

Are you ready? Set?

Turn off the REMOVE DUPLICATE FRAMES option in the P2 Import preferences. The default setting is for it to be checked.

That's it. That simple. Once I did that all of the clips from card 1 imported just fine...when previously only 4 out of 10 would import. I didn't think about it because I didn't find that option until recently. And I didn't think it was the solution until it was suggested that I uncheck it, then try again. When I did...boom. Success.

Anyone else have issues with this version of FCP? Lemme know if this fixes it, or DOESN'T fix it as well.

Now Ben...you might have figured this out without knowing that the REMOVE PULLDOWN option was the solution...because I know that at first it wasn't working, and now it is.

Shane,

Is this idea specific to footage shot at 720p24N? Is it basically that FCP isn't "auto-detecting" that its native 24 so it doesn't need to remove anything and then gets confused and so won't import? If one shot 720p24, would you then want it on say or is the removal being on a bigger issue and should be off regardless of what you shot at?

cheers.

I believe it is specific to 24PN, since that is the format we shot in. This might explain why some people had issues and others did not. We did shoot some 60p for slo-mo, but those frames weren't flagged for removal. Only 24p frames are.

hi!
Help, Ive never had a problem importing P2 into FCP 5.1.4. Until today. I shot in field. Transferred P2 cards to Firewire drive. When trying to import into FCP, IMPORT/Panasonic P2 (ive deselected the duplicate frame pref), the P2 Pane opens. I navigate to my Dump folder, select it... then FCP crashes. Ive tried restarts etc. Ive moved the files to another media drive and the same thing happens. Yes, i have the LastClip.txt file there as well. HELP!

Use FCP Rescue 5 to trash your FCP preferences. Run Disk Utility to do repairs on all your drives. Reboot. Try again.

When FCP crashes, does it give you a dialog box that gives you the option to send a report to Apple?

I've noticed that since the last OS update (10.4.9) that Photoshop CS (8.0x119) crashes a lot on me now. FCP is pretty stable on my system, though.
