FCP 5.1.2 & Cinema Tools 2.2

Using Cinema Tools 2.2, what is the best way to convert a 29.97 clip into 23.98 without losing audio sync?

Actually, you must use COMPRESSOR to do this best. I've got a droplet for that. Depending on what your original footage is.

You can try it...

I've posted it here before... maybe you can find it by doing a search. I'm not anywhere I can look on my iDisk -- not until later today as I'm flying back today from Chicago.

But it's COMPRESSOR that you want.

Let's say I want to convert Sony FX1's 1080i HDV cineframe (recorded as 29.97) into 23.98. . .

You say use compressor? I am not really familiar with it (I get DVD authorers to make my DVDs), what settings/presets should I use, retaining the highest possible quality in both picture and audio?

Thanks, Captain.

Also, should I edit the footage on a 29.97 sequence and then use compressor to convert the frame rate upon output/export, or convert to 23.98 before cutting, and the edit the converted footage on a 23.98 timeline?

Blow 20 some odd bucks on this book, it'll be the best $20 you ever spent:

Apple Pro Training Series; Compressor Quick-Reference Guide

It breaks Compressor down so that it's super easy to understand and master.

Thanks, I will check it out. But if I don't have $20 (Christmas gifts), how would you recommend doing it?

Thanks BenB, Happy Holidays.

Try this:

http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/1080_30_to_24.zip

You want to cut it all in the original footage and compress it when done.

I've never used HDV before and I had nothing to test this out with.

Should take a good amount of time to render... but should actually be worth it. Try something small first and see if it works.

Good luck,

CaptM

I can't get your file to play. It opens in droplet and I can't get it to submit. what do I do?

Thanks

Again, I don't have HDV footage... how are you using this?

Drag a section of video onto the droplet and let it go...

What are you trying?

Can you send me 10 frames of something?

CaptM

Hey Captain, don't mean to get personal but don't you have kids? Isn't it two days before Christmas? Are you so well organized that you can dispense advice at such a busy time of the year? [If so, you should be Major Mench]

We don't have kids so this is about as exciting as it gets for me, but you -- go have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday or Festivus for the Restofus. As much as we appreciate the advice DVXuser's will be here on Tuesday... :)

CHUCK!!!

WHEN you have kids you will realize that there are times when the LOVE just gets TOO much and as a dad you need a break from it all.

That said... my last post was actually longer with quite a bit of spite and anger that I had to trim it down a bit...

I mean, here it IS two days before Christmas... (OH and I was gone all last week and the wii came and Linda wrapped it and stuck it under the tree so I couldn't make sure it was safe for the boys (and play with it myself late at night))... and this guy can't even figure out how to use a droplet??? (Oh, here I go again...)

The KEY is to use adaptive frame blending as you move from 30fps to 24fps. Not hard... this took me about 5 minutes. The hard part though is to TEST it. That I cannot do.

My next step with this guy is to offer my consult fees.

I should be Major by April.

I have never used droplet before and what I meant was that I cannot get into or view or whatever it is I will do with the .zip file you sent to me. It opens in droplet, but I cannot click on submit, which I assume, like compressor, will render it or something. Just because you have more knowledge than I do, does not mean you have the right to show anger or disrespect towards me. I am asking you for help, because I know that you know more than I do and I am hoping to benefit from this conversation, not be broken down.

And I am not asking or trying to send you anything or footage, I am asking a question.

Janusz --

Don't be disrespectful to me...

You have a freaking manual... you could do SOME research for yourself... or -- better yet... Describe the problem you have instead of simple posts that have NO information for the people trying to help you. Simple bulletin board common sense.

Even your LAST post doesn't hint at you getting it to work... nor trying what I suggested with the Droplet... no... you simply are wasting my time again.

I'm more than willing to help... but for GOD's sake -- help ME out a bit!

Now -- I'd be MORE than happy to walk you through this on the phone. Very simple. $100 per hour with a minimum of one half our per call. I take all major credit cards and I'll call you.

But do YOURSELF a favor and try out what I gave you. If you have a problem with THAT droplet I'll tweak it for you. THAT I give for free... of which I got from you "thanks"

Nice.

CaptM

I don't even know what droplet does pr what it is, and I tried reading it's help section in Compressor.

"If you have a problem with THAT droplet I'll tweak it for you. THAT I give for free... of which I got from you "thanks""

Simply, what is droplet and what is that zip file you sent me, is it a clip? I am simply totally unfamiliar with droplet which is the main problem here and I do not have a specified droplet manual.

originally in the 1st post, I asked what is the best way to convert 29.97 to 23.98, and you told me to use compressor. then you allowed me to link to some kind of zip file that unstuffed into some kind of extensionless file that opened with droplet.

do not tell me to not be disrespectful to you. my last post showed no disrespect towards you at all. In fact if you read it again you'll see I complimented you. You were the one being disrespectful towards me in a post with ChuckS. Simply because possess mre knowlegde than I do.

janusz,

Not trying to pile on but there is a whole chapter in the Compressor manual (which can also be accessed from the "Help" within your Compressor program. It is chapter 18. It should tell you everything you need to know about Droplets.

Look...

this is really basic stuff... if you don't know what to do with a Zip file I'm done with you.

Did you actually spend $1200 on a program you refuse to learn or did you just download it from a torrent site.

Put some time in your investment.

Read the thread again. ALL the information you need is there... of course except what to do with the zip file.

I'm done.

CaptM

Ok -- no... I'm NOT done.

You need to send me one second of frames from your shoot.

I read some of your other posts... 24pA is NOT 24p -- it's 29.97. Did you remove the pulldown? Did you shoot 24p and not 24pA?

You are in a big mess and I'd like to help you if you are willing to be helped.

This could be even simpler than all the muckity-muck above.

CaptM

I havent shot anything in regards to my original 29.97 convert to 23.98 question. It was a hypothetical question and you answered it for me simply by saying use compressor, after the edit is complete. The droplet situation is what caused the problem.

And yes, I bought FCP 4 when it came out, full price and all, $1500. However, I have guys who do DVD authoring for me, which is why I do not know anything about compressor or droplet. But seeing that I have the program, and you suggested I use it, I thought I'd look into it, hence me asking you question, and looking or sounding like someone who doesnt know what I am talking about. And obviously, when it comes to compressor/droplet, I don't

I know what to do with a zip file. I unzipped/unstuffed your's and when it was finished, the file had no extension on it. I double clicked it and it open with droplet. Droplet seemed to be asking for 'date' or 'preset name' or 'source media extension', etc or something and it listed the properties of your file. Submit was grayed out, and I couldn't do anything with the file, or I just do know what to do with it.

So my other question was, what do I do with droplet, what do I do with your file?

Is it a clip, and why did you send it to me? Is it a sample?

Thanks for being genuine. I appreciate your patience in telling me about the chapter, I will look into it.
