FCP 4 on an ibook

I have an ibook 1GHz with 256MB of memory. I can get FCP 4 and load it onto my system. However, a friend of mine said I need to get at least another 512MB of memory if it is to run at a descent speed. I don't mind spending the extra bucks to buy the memory. I wonder though if FCP 4 will run well on an ibook period. Does anybody here have experience running FCP 4 on a G4 ibook? If so, does the program run at a good speed (five seconds for rendering dissolves), or does it takes several minutes to render one effect? Also, do the sequences play back without having errors and stops because the computer can't catch up? I remember working on an Avid that constantly had video and audio underruns. It was extremely annoying and difficult to deal with. If FCP 4 does the same thing on an ibook, I'll just save up the money to buy a G5 tower.

That is what I use on the road. Works pretty smooth if you turn the viewing quality down a bit. YOu absolutely have to bump up the ram, and you will have to render a few more things, but it works pretty darn fine. If you can, get an external hard drive though, clips on the internal one would cause your system to chug a even slower. I am shooting out of town this week, and spending my evenings cutting on my 1ghz ibook with 768 of ram rather pain free. Have fun.

Okay, I ordered a 512mb Corsair memory upgrade. I hope that is enough as I cannot afford the 1G upgrade. I already had 256 so that's 768MB total.
