FCP 4 external video sync issues

Using a Sony DVCam deck to print to tape. Playing and viewing through the canvas everything looks fine/in sync. After printing to tape when playing back the audio is out of sync by about one second. The original footage was captured using DVX 100A at standard NTSC 29.97 48khz sampling. I'm going firewire from G4 to sony deck no other intermediates.
 
Are you listening from the deck or the computer?
If it sounds in sync from the deck when recording it would be very odd for it to playback out of sync from the deck later.
