FCP 4.5 and HVX

I am shooting a short for someone who is editing on FCP 4.5 - does anyone know if that will handle dvcpro50 from the hvx or do i need to shoot to tape?

IINM you could firewire stream DVCPRO50, but 4.5 won't recognize P2 media at all nor will it be able to import from a hard disk. You'd have to play the footage into 4.5 and have it capture live streaming.
 
thats a shame - hmmmm - would i be better just shooting to tape

or another option is to shoot HD - then transcode all the files in avid to SD quicktime files

or convince the director to use a different editing sys
 
so with 5.0 there shouldnt be a problem right? If i copy the p2 cards to an external drive and hand that to him can FCP import - or can it only import from the p2 cards?
 
I believe 5.0 would work, 5.0 has SD P2 support. 5.0.4 added HD, but I believe DVCPRO50 is active in 5.0.

And it would be able to import from cards or from drives.
 
You could also find someone who has 5.0.4 or 5.1; maybe just go to the Apple store with your ext. Hard drive and import the P2 clips; transfer the quicktime files to your external drive and then go home and work on 4.5

I actually did that when I first got the HVX. I didn't have 5.0.4 yet, only 4.5 and so I went over to the apple store with my external drive.
