FCP 3 and 4 interaction?

I've just finished shooting for a short film and I'm about to edit it. I was planning to edit it at my university (University of Houston), but I found out that they only have FCP 3 when I thought they had version 4. A friend has version 4, but I won't have as much access to it as I would at UH. If I capture everything at UH and piece it together in a rough cut, will I have problems taking it to my friend's to finish it in FCP 4? Or would I just be better off finishing it in FCP 3? What are the main differences? All footage was shot with a dvx100.
I'd appreciate any help.

You should be able to go fcp 3 -> fcp 4 but maybe not the other way.
In any case do a small test. Part of the issue is if you won't be able to get access to your friends computer are you going to be out of luck if it's already half edited?
If you're doing 24fp timeline or special pulldown then it will have to be on fcp 4.

You can go from FCP3->FCP4 but not the other way around.
You cannot open FCP4 files on FCP3. The way to overcome this, is to export a EDL from FCP4, and then import it into FCP3. This is how I have done in the past.

There may be other ways, but this is the only one I know. I was just experimenting everything and this one worked.
