Okay, this is probably a dumb question, but if I shoot dvcpro 24p or dvcpro50 24p, can I edit in Final Cut Pro 2 - I haven't updated my nle yet. I guess my question is, is it possible to edit anything I shoot on the HVX with FCP 2?
rogar-BigGrin(DBG)True, I've read about a lot of problems people have been having--which is the reason I'm considering making the switch to a pc nle system. I love my mac but it seems that pc's work better with p2 cards--ie pcmcia slots, etc.
I just thought that if I use the p2 cards and shoot dvcpro (not HD) in regular 24p (as opposed to 24p advanced or 24pN) then I should be able to edit the footage in Final Cut Pro 2, or just about any other nle system. I think I read in Barry's book that if you shoot in regular 24p mode, you can edit on practically anything.
I would appreciate it if anyone told me whether this assumption is correct or not.
I may shoot some random footage and see if I can edit it, but I figured I'd see if anyone else has already tried this.
You're NLE has to support DVCPRO50. Regular DVCPRO can be editing on anything with an NTSC-DV ability. FCP 5.1.4 handles P2 just fine for me, no problems. FCP 2 doesn't have the DVCPRO codecs, I don't believe. FCP 6 will have great P2 support (as Apple bought a ton of licensing from the company that develops MXF).
Hmm, I may just have to wait until fcp6 comes out before I decide whether or not to switch to pc--do you know if they'll have any kind of pcmcia slot one can use to insert the p2 directly to the computer?
Not on a tower, and the Mac laptops have gone to that new fancy card, not the old PCMCIA. I think you'll see Windows laptops following suit in the near future, too. But you can get an adapter that'll read the cards. Seems I saw a post about one just recently.
