FC6 and Red One footage

I'm having issues bringing in Red footage using FC 6 . I'm using a mac pro with Final Cut 6 academic so unable to upgrade to 7 without buying a new full version. Iv'e downloaded the correct codec for the red files but I'm still getting an error message saying files are too new for this version. I can't believe there is not an easy fix to this set up? Thanks in advance..
 
What files do you get this error for- FCP project files? If they came from a newer version you are simply out of luck. The fix is- pony up for 7.
