fc studio 1 academic 2 uploads?

I cant find it anywhere in my documentation but I hear that final cut studio 1 had 2 uploads. Note that I have academic not the normal version. Is this true?
 
i had the academic version of the first studio and was able to upgrade to to the new studio. you just have to buy the upgrade from apple
 
I thought the reason the academic virsion was so cheap was because you cant update it to 2. I will be thrilled if I can upgrade this to fcp 2 i dont want to spend 1200

You only get to install it on one machine, at a time by the EULA. Apple has said various times that Academic versions were not upgradable, BUT every one that I know that has tried to upgrade the Academic version has been able to do so through Apple. I think it's a little like MS Office, they don't care so much about how you got there as long as you get on the upgrade train.
 
I would call Apple and ask if you can upgrade. Yes that would be a big gamble. THe folks I was talking about actually called up and asked. BUT that was going to FCS 1, and a year+ ago. I think you have to have an acceptable serial number just to buy the upgrade, but?
