FC Express Vs FCP

Hello,

First off am new here. Started editing this year.....am shooting mostly snowboard movies, and starting to have success and interests from others.

Next year am hoping to step things up a gear. Am looking for a Sony VX200 (PAL), and was also wondering about upgrading to FCP from the FC Express version I have now. Have done research on the differences between the two, and it looks quite substantial. Was just wondering if anyone had any opinions either for or against upgrading......just trying to get REAL peoples opinions.......also please get in touch if anyone reading this has a VX2000 (PAL) for sale.

Great to find this site, has already been extremely useful.

Some Major Differences:

No real 24P support in FCE.
No Secondary Color Correction or 3-Way Color Corrector
FCP has great intergration with the rest of Final Cut Studio.

I have FCE currently and just did the upgrade to FCS...I can't wait. I have used it before, and it is really awesome. If you are just starting FCE is good due tot he same interface, but if you ever want to do anything serious in the near future, save up the money and go FCP.

If you are a student, a good start would be Avid Xpress Pro Academic. It is $300 and has all the features of FCP. A good starter until you can save up the money.

Go for pro.

I started with express, and am now on pro. There were so many times I got frustrated with Express, only to find it was something I could do in Pro.

Express is great when you're on a budget, and it does get you used to the interface and basics of FCP, but if you're wanting to get serious, go pro now and you won't regret it.

Thanks for the helpful advice. This place is great. Have been on some forums where the only form of help you get are sarcastic comments and put downs.

So, thanks again, am already saving up, and now am more focused on getting FCP.
