Favorite web host for your video company site?

Which web hosting companies are folks using for their website (with video clips)? Reading reviews of the web hosting companies takes me in circles. I'd like to have unlimited bandwidth, transfer and storage (and which companies actually live up to that and give you as much as you want to use?) I'd like the company to have a good reputation for customer service and uptime too. Cost is a factor too.

thanks for suggestions/comments/experience you may have to share

not sure if they offer unlimited bandwidth, but i have about 5 websites that all have video on them in several places and i use godaddy.com

never really had an issue with downtime (knock on wood) and been using them for 5 years or so now

Bluehost is very nice. Not unlimited, but high enough that you can get a lot of video hits without a problem. You're not going to get unlimited storage and transfer with reliable, high speed hosting and proper features on a tight budget. I'd just embed stuff from Vimeo and save on the costs if the number of views really makes it much of an issue.

Thanks guys,

FilmBoy, I thought GoDaddy had told me I should look elsewhere for the video needs - how many total minutes of video do you have, adding up all the sites, and what size/format are they?

And Cassius, if you embed a video that's playing from another server/Vimeo, is there much of a delay and does Vimeo put any text or logo with the feed that shows the pic is coming from their site? (and what do you think of Vimeo's quality?)

Thanks so much for your responses, can't help but follow up with these questions ;)

cheers

hmmm, i'm not sure, but there's maybe at least 6 or 7 videos on each site. i guess if you'r eplanning on having as much traffic as something like mtv.com or cnn.com and having millions of viewers watch your videos at once maybe you do need to check to see if the host can handle it or invest in your own server? i'm not sure. majority of my videos are 640x360 or something like that at the largest. i dont run any full res HD and i'm not selling anything either, only showcasing my work in most instances.

with vineo you should be able to modify the embed code to not show the vimeo logo and stuff if i'm not mistaken. you'd just need to know what part of the code to leave out.

I personally like Vimeo. Yes, you can disable most of the things that show up on the embed. The only thing you can't disable is the "HD is on" if it's an HD vid. If you're not using a HD vid, this won't be an issue.

This is with everything including the volume, play bar, and full screen disabled:

The recommended settings for standard NTSC 720x480 is to export the video at 656x480 with 1:1/square pixel ratio using H.264 for compression. I've used Vimeo's recommended settings for YouTube and it seems to have held true w/ them too.

Free Host:
800MB Disk Space
10GB Bandwidth
6 MySQL DBs
10 Subdomains
4 Add-on/Parked Domain
20 Email Accounts

Or pay $10 once (not monthly or annually, Just once):
3000MB Disk Space
30GB Bandwidth
20 MySQL DBs
40 Subdomains
20 Add-on/Parked Domain
40 Email Accounts

Companies that market on Unlimited Bandwidth and Storage are lying. They're obviously limited by the physical set-up they have, and thus can't provide truely unlimited anything. And if you got above a certain point, they'd certainly terminate your account for using upto much server resources.

If you find that those numbers aren't adequate, you can posts in the forums there, gain "points" and buy additional storage and bandwidth with those points (and those purchases stay forever, no need to renew them every month.)

Ok, I'll check out novahost, thanks. I assume you're using them as well?

And yes, "unlimited" whatever, I take to mean "up to a point"

thanks
