The Black Button...http://youtube.com/watch?v=QrKnhOJ-R80

Really good story

Just finished watching it - you're right, it's a good short.
But its apparently just a rip on an old twilight zone episode (which was based on a short story from 1970).
It's pretty well known - Button, Button

They did add a new twist on it.... but the concept is pretty much the same ....
Still, a good short - but they really should have credited the original story.

Oh, so Luis, when i secretly redo all the videos you make (with out letting u no), i shud credit YOU? ok ill do that!

and Zfarms, that was actually hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Favorite shorts:

Un Chien Andalou (see: my avatar)
By Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali

One of the earliest experimental films. It's creepy, disturbing, and hilarious at the same time. The shot of the ants crawling out of the hand is just so disturbing and brilliant.

La Jetee
By Chris Marker

The short which 12 Monkeys was loosely based, told almost entirely in still photos. There's nothing else like it.

The Alphabet
By David Lynch

Visually and aurally strange and unique.

One Day
By Michel Gondry

David Cross plays Michel Gondry's poop, and becomes a nazi somehow.

A good site for shorts is: http://www.shortoftheweek.com

The Parlor by Geoffrey Haley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmDPdCzCfFM
A bunch of people in a waiting room making small talk, the more they talk, the more they talk, the more we the viewers start to understand this is no 'normal' room.

Sunshine Through the Rain by Akira Kurosawa
You can watch it on youtube in multiple parts. It is truly remarkable how much you can find within this short.

The Heart of the World by Guy Maddin

I mentioned this earlier in the thread and got a friend to upload it since it is constantly being taken down of youtube. Created for the Toronto Film Festival, tribute to Russian propaganda films.

Cashback by Sean Ellis
Great short which was later turned into a feature about a store clerk who could freeze time.

I will post more later.

I just remembered something.

Some short documentaries I love:

Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe
By Les Blank

Do I need to explain? Werner Herzog Eats his shoe.

Okay, I will explain, for those who don't know.

Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris was a student of Werner Herzog's and had talked about his plans of making a documentary about Pet Cemeteries. Herzog said that if Morris could get a film made on such an obscure subject, he would eat his shoe. Well, Errol Morris went ahead and made "Heaven's Gate", and at the premier, Herzog kept his promise, and at his shoe. Throughout the film, he eats his shoe, as he talks about philosophy and cinema, among other subjects.

Meetin' WA
By Jean-Luc Godard

Jean-Luc Godard interviews Woody Allen, and talks about their friendship, and what Allen's films mean to him. I posted a thread about it in Cafe several months ago. It doesn't seem to be on youtube anymore.

You can probably find both of these short documentaries on torrent sites though.

And now for an animated short:

Darkness/Light/Darkness
By Jan Svankmajer

Brilliant concept and great stop-motion animation.

I just watched Street of Crocodiles by the Quay brothers last night. I thought that was brilliant animation too.

Six Shooter. So darkly funny and beautiful. Best Short Oscar winner.

written/directed by playwright Martin McDonagh, who has a reputation as the bad boy of theatre. At the age of 27 he was the first playwright since Shakespeare to have four plays running simultaneously in London's West-End. But his influences are not in theatre. He cites Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Terrence Malick and Quentin Tarantino. And he once gotten into a drunken fight with Sean Connery. You can get this on iTunes.

There use to be a show called the Short List that can on a local New York channel on midnight Saturday. It use to play great short films. The best tended to be from France.

One I remember was about a African man getting on a bus in France. On the bus some old women becomes afraid of him for prejudice reasons so she tries to get him thrown off the bus. The film escalates to a very sad and sorrow ending. Great short.
