Sound Ninja
We have all seen them and I thought maybe a light non controversial topic would be fun. The one that inspired this is actually not for sound but most of the ones I have collected are. If you post don't put peoples contact info etc. I don't want to get mean but some are good enough to make you smile all day.

This was on CL not long ago.

I have a great idea for a movie with up to date topics and ideas.

Start:

Drama featuring an individual being followed by camera while stealing a person identitiy and the steps involved:
*Picks victim using talent as a socialite
*Stalks victim and gathers information
* Obtains victims identity and secures it using todays services. Not allowing the person to regain identity or be warned.

stop.

this film will cover both sides of the crime. Victim impact i todays economy and fruitfullness of hacker who stole it.

please contact xxxx at xxx-xxx-xxxx for info:

need:

this film should be profitable with valuable life lessons in today's technological world. all profits and credits will be shared equally. can screen test on you tube

Sounds like a post that could be the opening move in a real-life example of the crime described as being depicted in the film.

Probably at the bottom of the post was "no pay", as is usually the case on CL... especially when looking for a sound person/crew... they want gear included as well.
A good idea just the same.

We had a very similar one here in the SF Bay, where the operator follows someone engaging in identity theft. I wonder if it's the same guy.

There's one right now for an actor with a police uniform, $20 for an elaborate prank. I don't know what the prank is, but I know the legal risks of impersonating a police officer go beyond $20.

I wish I had saved all the CL sound designer job listing from back in my freelance days in L.A. Some people wanted full on post production with ADR and final mix on a feature all for $200.

While I've not seen this one in the 'video/camera' ads I've seen, the Wife read an ad for some furniture... and wanted a better photo... she was given a URL to a 'video', which required a nonstandard Codec to be loaded to see said 'video'... which
happens to be one of the few ways at the moment that Macs are just as susceptible to 'viral infections' as Windows boxes are...

Even playing flash widgets has been security problems when using the official Adobe player... who knows what a codec of unknown origin would do to one's system...

There have also been some local incidents where thieves used the occasion to 'respond' to a craigslist ad to commit a burglary...

I've responded to a number of craigslist ad just to up my 'shooting time'... and I usually ask for a script... and in almost all cases there has been either no response... or a few lines of 'idea' as a response, and after that no further follow up...

I'm pretty sure I'm not taking away anyone's bread and butter by responding to such ads... but it does lead me to believe that craigslist is almost useless for getting even 'crappy, no pay, just for the experience' work. I say 'almost', because I did get a $250 odd job via a craigslist ad... I wouldn't quit my day job... but on rare occasions something may show up...

On the other hand... perhaps there is a large set of high quality shooters just itching to give their services away for free...

Whenever I see postings like these, usually they are free postings. Not that its a bad thing, but I must say that the postings that require people to play a tremendous role, or are an up and coming director, they would post them on other websites. I like CL, but it would pretty hard to find a spot and get paid for it.
