My favorite Hitch cameo was in Lifeboat. Because there are only 10 characters in the film, he appeared as the "Before" in a "Before and After" newspaper advertisement.
Some other directors' cameos that I love:
In Their Own Films
-John Huston as "American in Tampico in White Suit" in Treasure of the Sierra Madre
-Francis Ford Coppola as a news reel director in Apocalypse Now
-David Cronenberg as the obstetrician (nightmare sequence) in The Fly
-Rob Reiner as a helicopter pilot in Misery
In Other Filmakers' Films
-Cecil B. DeMille as himself in Sunset Blvd
-John Huston as "The Lawgiver" in Battle for the Planet of the Apes
-Orson Welles as the movie producer in The Muppet Movie
and, of course...
-Steven Spielberg as the clerk in The Blues Brothers
