Favorite Actor Square Offs

I'm cool with wherever ya'll want to take it.

What originally got me going on this whole topic was pure and simple, I have the scene in True Romance with Walken and Hopper on DVR. I play it at least 2-3 times a week and just laugh and sit in awe of the power of these two giants on screen together.

My defense of Pitt is valid, and I think in the films listed above he does have range. Is he eye candy for women? Yeah. The guy does have some acting chops though and I think that he has more talent than people give him credit for.

Ultimately, what do you want from an actor? Do you want someone like Gary Oldman who is seemless in every performance and you can't even tell what he really looks like because he constantly changes? Do you want a borderline psychotic like Daniel Day Lewis who is so method that he never comes out of a role and sometimes goes completely over the edge (Gangs of NY, anyone?)?

I'm not saying Pitt is in the elite of actors, but I think the guy has taken some daring roles that others would not.

Historically we give Warren Beatty a lot of credit for being a cultural sex symbol and then playing Clyde in Bonnie & Clyde. He played an impotent killer. C'mon, this is a great risk for an actor to take. I think that Pitt has taken some risks and he deserves some respect.

I agree. You can't hold the guys appeal to women against him. I personally feel the biggest risk he took, considering his "image" was taking on the role of Early Gracye in Kalifornia.

Once Upon A Time...

Brad Pitt had one hell of a run going there for himself for 3 magical years (1992-95)...

A River Runs Through It (1992)
Kalifornia (1993)
Interview with the Vampire (1994)
Legends of the Fall (1994)
Se7en (1995)
Twelve Monkeys (1995)

...and during this period, I counted him as one of our finest actors.

-then-

Something begin to happen to him during the late nineties, which I like to think of as the transitional period...

-then-

The millennium happened. Since then, I really think that the problem has been that he has started to actually believe that he is Brad Pitt.

LMAO!

Dude, I actually agree with you, but during that period he was great, and I think that he has the potential to get back there. Maybe I'm naive and I just like to believe that people who were great could be great again, but hey, Travolta moved on from Look Who's Talking to do Pulp Fiction, so anything in possible, right?

In fact; when Pitt did that commercial where he plays Brad Pitt being chased by the Papparazzi and all he want's is a Heine ?

That was the official '**** you' in my eyes.

Remember when they made Ocean's 12 and it was just one bad dream after another ? When Julia play's ****ing Julia ? Huh ? What the ...........?

I lost mad respect for all those bastards on that one. At least Clooney is slowly getting it back for me (Syriana and GNGL)

I disagree with that. I think that O12 sucks donkey cock, no doubt about it, but at the same time, if I was Jeremy Ordan super director rather than Jeremy Ordan nothing director I would make a film with all my friends and make people pay to see it just for amusement.

I understand why they did it because if you could make a film with your friends then wouldn't you completely do it?

Totally disagree.

I found it an insult to cinema.

It was an insult, but I understand the motivation behind doing it. I would do the same but I would make a decent film with my friends.

I didnt see it mentioned here but I could have sworn that the Heat scene with Robert Deniro and Al Pacino may have centered on screen time issues, not appearing in frame together. Unless I am thinking of another film.

I would second Key Largo for the Edward G Robinson and Humphrey Bogart scenes but add:

Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi in the Raven
Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff in the Raven (with Jack Nicholson!)

Sleuth--Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine
Marathon Man: Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier
and The Boys From Brazil: Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck.

King Kong vs Godzilla

And the Daffy Duck and Donald Duck/ Bugs Bunny/Mickey Mouse scenes from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Actually I think that was the film where they had to have equal screen time.

That story I always remembered hearing about Heat was that Pacino and DeNiro didn't like one another because DeNiro stole the headlines in Godfather 2. So Pacino had this issue and they argued over who was really a 'real Italian' and who was a sissy *****.

I always thought the scene between them was awesome because here are two great actors who really hate each other and they're squaring off.

Just the story I heard, don't know if it has any truth to it, but yeah, I believe it, and in aliens, and in the hanging curveball, and that...

That was addressed and answered earlier in this thread. You might want to read back a couple of pages.

Ha no I worded it wrong. By screen time I mean having the same amount of screen time--not sharing screen time. By "not appearing in frame together" I mean that it centered on screen time issues AND not the issue of them appearing in screen together. I am not sure if I cleared that up but I am tired.

Blaine! You just made me think of one of the best comedy casts ever assembled:

Murder By Death
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074937/
i was trying to tell someone that movie like a week or two ago . man that was funny and what a cast! i loved when Falk and his secetary
start to argue and she mentions the muscle magazines stuffed in his closet

Oh, I've got a good one. How about Robin Williams and Al Pacino in Insomnia.
