Re: Fave Films of the Decade

Great list! I'll agree with:

The Passion of Joan of Arc, M (which was brilliant), It Happened One Night (which was really well made but a little silly), Seventh Seal, Singing in the Rain, Lawrence of Arabia (even though I felt it got very tedious at times. Still, I got to see it in an AMAZING 70mm print. If you think 35mm is good, 70 is astounding and this is a gorgeous movie to start with.) Clockwork Orange (flat out great), both Godfathers were very good if over-rated, E.T. was great but silly, and I loved all the Star Wars films (Why did you mention only Jedi, the worst of the three, though?) The Shining was good, but not Kubrick's best, Shawshank Redemption was wonderful if a bit contrived, and City of God was knock-your-socks-off intense and really just a great movie.

Braveheart...meh. It was good but not best of the decade good. Battle Royale was good, but sleazy, too. Too much violence without a good enough message to back it up. Then again, I used to feel the same way about Clockwork Orange and now I don't....

Also great (but all recent): Dogville (flawed and not a great film, but so unique I have to give it credit), Eraserhead (not so recent, but also partially novelty...still...stunning given what it is), Mulholland Dr., Dr. Strangelove (better than the Shining), and Being John Malkovich. That film is beautiful and hilarious.

Re: Fave Films of the Decade

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi , reminds most of my childhood, and it stuck to me more, felt more than the other ones.

Those are grest lists, and movies you are naming are one of my fave also for example Being John Malkovich but didn't make my top 5 list. Sure they might be in my top 15 or top 20 but not top 5.
