Fav new tool, RUBBER JAR OPENER!, No really!

I have a new favorite tool that I carry in my pocket on shoots. It is a rubber jar opener, like this:

It really helps when tightening down knobs on gear, especially on those pesky magic arms that I use to mount my on camera monitor with. It really made a difference on my last shoot with the magic arm. The rubber grip give you that little extra turn at the end. I also used it when tightening down the plastic knobs on a Porta-jib. I recommend keeping one around.

Just thought I would share.

And they're genius for loosening a too-tight filter...

Brilliant. I saw a photographer get her "protective" filter smacked by another photographer's camera at a news event. No one had a filter wrench and the filter ring was damaged making it difficult to turn, particularly with the broken glass. Lens rendered useless. A rubber jar opener might have been just the thing to save the day.

I missed the above responses. I have found the rubber jar opener to be essential when trying to get a F mount to EOS mount adapter off of a F mount lens. The edges on some of those adapters are pretty sharp and getting a grip is pain without the jar opener. I keep one of these jar openers around all the time and still find them very handy. I don't know of any other piece of kit that you can pick up the next time you are at the dollar store that will be as useful.
