Fast and Furious shatters box office records

He's at $900k pure profit after his magazine adds and working on another one right now. I'm telling you, we are IDIOTS! He is a former IT guy so yea, he looks and sounds stupid but he's far from it.

I have a theory that we are surrounded by so much artifice, in movies, TV and music, that what audiences are increasingly looking for is "authenticity". That's my only explanation for the success of reality shows, Jackass style films, Youtube videos, and this guys motorcycle DVD's. You can't look at them from a standpoint of artistic merit, only how authentic they seem. As someone who's worked in reality tv I know first hand reality shows are anything but "reality", but they give the illusion of it. Even in traditional filmmaking, audiences seem to be embracing films like The Dark Knight, which is played more realistically than usual and relies on more traditional stuntwork sans CGI, than artificial creations like Speed Racer...or maybe people just like seeing other people getting hit in the nuts.

I will get hit in the nuts for money. Please PM reasonable offers... these are quality nuts here folks. Serious inquiries only.

You may be on to something Batutta... I gotta' figure something out. Ceiling stare starts... NOW!

So, if we get 15 dvxusers to put in $1 each (you can have the money, Matt) I'll drive to St. Louis and kick you in the nuts. This will be a good experiment for future youtube marketing plans. Just think, you could have a jackass soundman video and sell it here. I'll work on rigging the mixer to a 220 volt plug so you won't have to worry about your nuts hurting for too long.

Somebody already beat you to it--

I didn't see a guy holding a boom pole get kicked in the nuts unless that was Matt walking out of the porn shop, this is a new angle on it, it'll be better :)

Ryan is proably wondering what happened to his thread. Sorry bro.

Back on topic:

It's all about timeliness. The economy is bleak. People might not be into something apocalyptic, like KNOWING or something that is bleak, like HAUNTING IN CONNETICUT, or crosses the line of ultra-violence, like WATCHMEN, so they turn to a "fun", adventure movie. Perfect!

This isn't about stupid, shallow audiences. People are spent (literally), so deep, dark and twisting isn't the mood, at the moment. If we were truly logical, the stock market wouldn't dive and turn, because of what a random economist predicts. Box office works similarly.

maybe i'm the only one who liked this movie.....*bows head in shame*

Why be embarrased to like this type of movie? I don't understand why some people have to act like some sort of "film-elitist" and act like the movie is no good, or they're just too good to watch it... I haven't seen it yet, so I can't comment on it's quality personally, but I do plan on seeing it eventually.

Considering this is #4 in the F&F line of movies, they must be doing something right to be able to afford to make it. There must be a large enough market out there for these movies, and there's no way that everyone that went to watch this or the other three movies and enjoyed it was a complete idiot, or too dim witted to enjoy something a little less mindless... obviously the producers of this know something that we don't know, because I don't remember the last time I heard of anyone on here making a film grossing the kind of money this one is... but I guess if you want to make a "real" movie, and not get scoffed at on film making forums and such, you can't be bothered with such things as making good money off of your "art".

Don't get me wrong.. I like a good plot-driven movie just as much as the next guy, but I see nothing wrong with liking a movie just for pure thrills as well. Hell, I don't think I'd have any problem "selling out" as I'm sure some people here consider these types of movies to be, if I'd pocket 6+ figures off a cheesy movie... Just my opinion, I'm not hating on anyone here. It just seems like some people have their heads stuck up so high when it comes to making movies, that they pretend they can't enjoy something because it's not the cinematic masterpiece of the decade...

Or maybe I'm just really tired right now, and am reading too much into this. Either way... to each his own, I guess.

I'm going to go see it soon, I need to see some fast action shots for insperaton and will also be seing Crank2 for some fast action advise with little cameras.

Actually I can't wait. They are saying 42% of the audience was female (way up from the first one and others that followed) so I'll also be scanning the theater for a mental note on the demographics, sex, age, race, etc. I don't think the old demographics apply this time around.

I saw Crank the other day, I was totally surprise how good and entertaining it was. Sometimes a good fun movie just does it, and there's a big difference between a stupid fun movie and a fun movie with an actual plot. The original Fast & Furious had a cool plot which made the movie that much more fun. I went in the original just expecting a Race Car movie but then was blown away by the storytelling.

So I'm gonna see the latest one and hope it has that same affect. F&F 2, was horrible, so I stop watching them, but I'm glad the old cast is back. And I'm the type of guy who loves a good Art film, so I can relate to both sides... but I bet no one saw $75,000,000 coming...lol

I liked crank but I am too into cars to be able to appriciate much about the fast and furious flicks. I saw this one as a great way to weaiste that dolla though and it made bank night one.
I'm gonna have to go hang out at the local theatre and catch the 16 year olds drifting out of the parking lot with theme music in their heads for the next Moddin' Art episode.

:D
My roommate is seeing this today... he was a fan of the first one, and digs the idea that the original cast is back together for this new one. And I am all on board with the 'fun-action' movie... I'm definitely going to see Crank 2. I'm not really into cars, but I understand how others see the value in going to the theater to see nice cars, explosions, fights, and a new story about characters from a movie they used to really like.
