I didn't say anything about "academic review". I was making the point that the photographers (and videographers that shoot the videos) are seasoned professionals and that it would be wise to try and mimic the results that they are able to achieve.

And some professionals would class 'Playboy' in the boudoire category, rather than the fashion/glamour. Which in my first response above, was the advice to get fashion/glamour magazines, watch music videos, and reverse engineer the lighting and obviously the filmmaking style.
