Any thing from Shawshank Redemption.

The most famous scene imo is the shower scene from psycho.

A classic scene:

Some others, although trying to pick an actual 'best' scene is a bit hard.
Lets call them memorable...

You guess the rest :)

Forrest Gump (pick anything in there)
Road to Perdition (gunshots in the rain at the end)
Shawshank Redemption (Red walks up to the tree or the shot of the men listening to the opera in the courtyard)

Wow...there are some realy great scenes that stick out, to the point that narrowing them down would be an injustice...so, in no particular order...the ones that immediately come to mind.

Braveheart - "Freeeeeeddddooooooooommmmm" I was 15...the first movie that brought man-tears.

The Dark Knight - Joker talking to Harvey in the Hospital. Not overly complex or awe inspiring, but the dialogue washes away anything fiction from the story, and the delivery makes you forget you're watching a movie.

The Godfather - The christening intercut with all the mob hits. This is by far one of the coolest montages in that we see the duality of being a "Family Man." Awesome in scope and depth.

V for Vendetta - Not much for overdone special effects, but in the end when V takes out Sutler, Mr. Creedy and the rest of the swat team-like guys. Just for it's magnitude of "now it's done." The guy's been shot like a hundred times and won't stop until it's finished.

Gone with the Wind - On any viewing after the first, when you see Scarlett and her father standing under the old oak tree overlooking Tara, knowing it's all about to end. Then the latter part of the film when it's just her and she's come into her own.

Layer Cake - The intro V.O. leading into the drive to the country club with "She Sells Sanctuary" by The Cult blasting. Just one of those moments when I was like, "This movie is going to kick ass" and it did.

SNATCH - "...but not the pikey. Why? Because he's had intentions on running the car over the whole time." The twist ending, multi-cut and set to "****ing in the Bushes" by Oasis. Awesome story-telling through editing. "I'll give ya ya shooter ya c***."

Just a few that came to mind.

I believe this cat Indy was looking for the best "cinematography-driven" scenes (which perhaps should have been called "shots" instead)...not the overall "best scenes".

Lawrence of Arabia, when he enters the desert, is one of my favorites. Also, the single take as Omar Sharif makes his entrance to the well.

There are a handful in Bergman's Persona that are unbelievable. Sven Nykvist is a great source for these types of things.

Al Pacino screaming "ATTICA!" in Dog Day Afternoon

Marlon Brando in the opening scene of The Godfather

Daniel Day-Lewis in the final scene of There Will Be Blood

alot more but there's some
