Faking Sound

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
Hey guys,

I have a friend speaking in front of a microphone. I have a scene in which two talents are sitting on a couch and they pretend to hear the voice I recorded, but I want it so sound like the voice is coming upstairs (they are in the basement)

What sound filter/effect can I use to achieve this with either Garageband, Final cut 2, or AE?

Thanks,

Robbie

I would do this in Soundtrack Pro. Do you have it?

Record a clean voice and then adjust highs lows to match room tone and then alter perspective based on shot when you hear the voice.

You could try the in the box solution but HBLACK's suggestion is how I would do it. It's called "worldizing" and it's done all the time to do exactly the kind of thing you need. Usually a sound is played back in the real space and rerecorded but since it's your voice and it's not sync I would do it live.

I would have thought to just shoot it, and then edit it in post. More possibilities.

Hm, ok I'll try that for next time.

I some what figured it out, however.

I brought the audio down, and I took the one audio channel off to make it sound like it's coming from somewhere else. Then I added some Reverberation and tweaked the filter.

Thanks for the help.
