Faking a school classroom scene

anyone got any ideas how to the fake the inside of a classroom, as obviously no schools will probably be willing to let us shoot in a real class room.

we are basically looking at an empty office room or something we can set up desks or chairs in (again, don't know where we'd get those) I am trying to write my script around things I know we might be able to get access to..

Have you tried asking a school to let you shoot in a class room? I have done it several times. Also look around for schools that aren't schools anymore but are renting out space. You may be surprised what is out there. Where are you located? I know of such a place in milwaukee, WI. if your near there. Good luck.

I went to the high school that I went to, told them I was a former student and that I needed a classroom to shoot in. They didn't even ask if I had insurance and just gave me a date to come and shoot. No one even had to really be there.

I just sort of worked the former student perspective, but I'm sure if you involve students or do something good in general they'll be happy to let you shoot there.

Many churches rent out various parts of their facilities and the educational space is already set up as classrooms . Rental can be very cheap.

Hmm.. I wonder how susceptible they would be with this being a horror film.

Of course, there would be no nudity or cursing in this scene.. just a scene with college kids in a class room with a professor with a few lines between the students and the professor.

You ought to be able to score access to a community college, high school, middle school etc classroom, for the asking, once you find the right person to ask.

For the most part, always ask first. Worst that can happen, is you'll hear 'no.'

Uh, actually:

I will not ask to use your facility in the future.
I will not ask to use your facility in the future.
I will not ask to use your facility in the future.
I will not ask to use your facility in the future.

I shot in a school 2 years ago, I didnt go there and I talked to the principal and he said sure. try a little harder

I was going to suggest green screen to fake anything but I think these guys are probably right...a real classroom is probably the best

I am a teacher, and I'll just say be honest. Do not try any of that slick no budget I'll just sneak in and charm this and that and film free cause I'm awesome stuff... that'll get you arrested. It's a different world now and puri-tyrannical parents have school districts in deathgrips. They will beat down the doors of Valhalla if something is done that counters their belief, or that compromises their children in any way, and if there is one thing that I have learned being both a movie maker and an educator, it's that people are righteously insane about their children... so be honest, seek out higher secondary or college classrooms, and look for schools with film or production classes and talk to the teachers- as long as the scene isn't too over the top, some teachers would enjoy showing their kids the process as a real life teachable moment. Be aware, though. It's not impossible, but it becomes a tricky, slippery slope... remember, these are post-Columbine American educational institutions you are dealing with. Violence or allusions to violence in any way, truthfully from a person writing this from his classroom right now, are completely taboo.

PS- this is a good thread for my students to see and understand.

^ good point. We routinely shoot at a middle school and at a primary school in our area of Manhattan Beach, and the hoop-jumping, t-crossing and i-dotting required sometimes rises to the level of the ridiculous...

...but you gotta work through channels. Unless you're hankering after a matching set of steel bracelets.

It's true that no one wants somebody else screwing up their kids. Parents jealously reserve *that* honor, for themselves.
