Certainly worth a try, if you can make a little desk that is a match for the real desk in later shots. Miniature photography can be a dark art though, especially as you need this shot to not look like a special effect and so match the full size lighting and depth of field etc. (Unless you can go all post-modern and arty and actually have the action set in a dollhouse, but I'm guessing not judging by your descriptions.
