Fairly loud speakers to show same-day-edits

I shoot weddings and sometimes clients ask me to do a same-day-edit. I edit a short film during the dinner and show the guests the film during the party in the evening.
I will rent a beamer + screen for this and connect them to the HDMI-out of my laptop.

For the sound, I haven't got a solution yet. I'm looking for a set of 2 speakers maximum to limit the amount of stuff I will have to transport. They should be easy to connect with just one jack / tulip input and 1 power cable. I should be able to just put them on the floor of wherever the venue I might be and it should be fairly loud so that everyone can hear the music and audio well.
Last but not least, I'm hoping for at least fairly decent sound quality :)

I'm willing to spend around $ 200,00 maximum for this.

Anyone knows what to look for? Or has any model in mind? Should I look for active or passive speakers? I guess active, right? I just want to be able to connect them directly to the laptop's 3.5mm headphone out and get fairly loud.

Any tips or advice?

I'm not sure that your budget is realistic. Having said that, numerous manufacturers make portable sound gear for music and PA use. They ship as a kit with detachable speakers and re-assemble as a transportable kit. BH would have this equipment as well as the music stores like sweetwater and guitar center.

I don't think you will find a 'decent' (pair) for under $200.. but then again 99% of the listeners probably won't care anyway.. (i.e. drunk)

Hmm and what about one speaker? I've never actually listened to anything coming from just one speaker. Would that be able to 'fill the room'?

Sure, I have an Anchor AN130 compact powered PA speaker (small/lightweight) that gets pretty loud... according to Anchor, enough to fill 100 person room. It must be elevated into clear air. (like any MF/HF PA speaker.

Makes sense. My thought was if you are only doing a couple of these type gigs a year rental would make better financial sense.

If you're only doing it a couple of times a year, my advice is to rent as well; usually from your local music store. You'll need fairly powerful loudspeakers for most wedding venues. They'll be large and heavy and will usually cost about $50+ per day to rent.

Buying terrible speakers and playing back distorted and/or quiet audio will lessen your perceived value, not increase it.

small JBL control 1 speakers can go quite loud and would be more than enough for a viewing where people will be close to the screen, a stereo 50 or 100 watt amp should be more than enough to power them.
