Fair Use

How much of a song can you use in a film before it falls out of Fair Use laws? All I need is about 2 or 3 seconds, the song would probably be recognizable. Does anybody have some guidelines on what does and does not fall under Fair Use when it comes to music?

That doesn't.

But for something that short, you might be able to get a license cheap. Or even less.

Certainly less than the lawsuit would cost. ;^)

Yeah the more I read up, I came to the conclusion that Fair-Use doesn't apply to short films with "commercial" intent as in... not for school work or the news.
