Fahrenheit 9/11

I know this may bring up a bunch of political talk....again :)  I don't want to do that.  All I want to talk about is where he got all that stock footage?  Does anyone know of the specific film banks, etc... where he may have gotten this footage.  How did he get the rights to any of this news/bush footage.  Why did "open water" look like trash on the big screen filmed with sony pd-150's but film from inside the capitol building presumably from c-span and other campaign footage/news clips, look pretty good.  How can open water look bad but all of these tv clips look ok?  I don't understand this stuff.  Anyway, any help to try to understand would be greatly appreciated.  :) Also, does anyone know what he used to film with--the clips around Washington D.C.? Was it shot on film?

Thanks for your help. But I still can't understand how archival footage could look better on the big screen than could "Open Water". This makes no sense to me.

Re: Fahrenheit 9/11

open water was shot on consumer digital camcorders. news footage and filmed archival footage is filmed with much higher resolution, so it looks better blown up. cspans broadcast quality cameras are running at about twice the res of a home video cam.

for some more info on the film itself:

Arent the news footage shot mostly in BETA?

As a film, I loved it. This was indeed, a great documentary. However, the content I didn't much care for, or pay much attention too...if that makes sense.
