Facebook as a networking tool

I was just wondering how effective (or ineffective) people have found facebook as a networking tool for filmmakers, for those of you on this website you've used it.

Would be interesting to hear your experiences.

i haven't had a very good experience there. myspace has been better. met some very talented DPs there when i was looking to hire for my feature.

i truly think venues like DVXuser and my own forum, Sabi Forum, are proving to be the ideal arena to meet other artists, filmmakers and collaborators.

Facebook can be a decent marketing tool but doesn't seem to be a great networking tool, unless you want to network with everyone you went to gradeschool with.

You should also read the fine print of facebook before you sign up and be clear about what you are getting into. They are a very dirty company.

I've had no real luck "networking" per se and marketing hasn't even been that great for me. I find that these "networking" sites are rather useless other than catching up with old friends and highschool students making stupid groups.

the advertising is easy on facebook, and since november i belive you can setup a page for your company or band or whatever and just advertise that page to specific people in general. ya its not all fancy corporate, but if you are looking for people it can definatly be helpful.

Actually, I personally despise social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. This is possibly due to the explosion of popularity, and in my opinion overuse and overdiscussion. (This could also explain why I don't like Rzrs) I just don't see the need to sift through what is essentially a dump for that one piece of gold. Savvy?
