I need to film several old people. I want the "Band of Brothers" intro interviews look (these men are war vets)

They should have a black background and what should be seen in mostly face

what kind of lightning do you recommend?

Thanks

If I recall, those setups seemed very simple. Softbox for key and a little tiny bit of kicker.

The key to this look is getting a high ratio of light to background. To do that you need to shoot in a dark space, preferably with your subjects pretty far from the walls. You'll want your skin tones to be lit at 5 or 6 stops above your background, at a minimum. If you've got a proper space, you can do this with a 650k fresnel and any ol' kicker. If you're having to shoot on the fly in their homes or wherever, you may need to bring a lot more light. Consider bouncing the key in with a bounceboard then, rather than using it directly; that'll help with falloff.
