Face filming for experimental stimuli

Hi

I'm doin a phd in person perception in Jena, Germany at the moment. With this reasearch I'll be filming the faces of talking people with a Sony DCR-DVD403E.

I don't have very much experience in digital filming and certainly not much experience in controlled lighting. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a lighting kit in which I could evenly light the subject's face and be able to precisely adjust so that light levels are identical for each clip.

Thanks, and i hope i made some sense.

Dave.

Sounds like you'd want a tungsten open-face light in a softbox. The softbox will give you the even lighting you're looking for, while it being a tungsten unit (instead of fluorescent) will let you use a dimmer, which will let you precisely control the light level.

If you need precision though, to precisely recreate the light levels, you'll probably need an instrument to measure that. You'll probably need a lightmeter so you can measure the exact footcandles of light landing on the face; that way you could recreate the same light conditions for each setup.
