do you have to arm ( put in record mode) the lr track or does it always record ?

Please be more specific.. What is Lr track? If you mean the Left/Right mix tracks, yes.

Yes the left right mix tracks that are recorded

Someone here probably knows offhand. But that someone isn't me. Maybe check the manual?

I have only used it briefly, but it appears that you must explicitly enable the L/R mixdown recording feature.
In any case, it is easily configurable in the setup menus, so no big deal either way, IME.
If you want it to default arm (or not) just configure it as you wish.
