F-stop question

I read that anything below f-4.0 on the DVX100A would cause a lack of quality in the footage captured. I am shooting a night scene and at 4.0 the lights are barely cutting it. If I go down to f-2.0 or lower the lights are most sufficient, and the shot still appears to be at night. If I use an f-stop of 2.0 or lower how much will I regret this later on?

Thank you!!!!!!!!

Don't even worry about it. Even at absolute wide open the loss in sharpness is maybe 10% at most, which nobody will even complain about. Feel free to use the whole range.

Kugar,

Most lenses are that way, not as good at very wide and very closed apertures. There is a sweet spot somewhere in between. With really small apertures (over F8) you get an effect called diffraction, which loses a lot of resolution and basically looks like muck. Wide apertures, while technically not perfect, are much more forgiving. A lot of people are using them to achieve shallow depth of field.

Wow! Thanks for the amazing info. I had run a few tests and didn't really see a difference. I was worried there was something I didn't know that I would regret later on... in post or something. Thank you SO much! My life just got easier..... =)
