EyeOne/Spyder for Color Grading

I have a 23" ACD and I was wondering if for the purposes of color grading, I could use a monitor calibrator such as the EyeOne Display 2 to get me close "enough" to how it would appear on a TV?

I know the calibrator is intended for print but I'm curious if the colors will be decent enough to be reliable.

The other option involves getting the MXO. I'm not sure if I should just cheap out on the post-side of things because I'm also looking into getting a Steadicam Merlin. I'll be using it for an XH-A1/HV30, obviously without the SGpro though, sadly.

*BTW, is it me or do colors look a lot richer when viewing inside color than in Final Cut?

Colorgrading with anything else than a real good and hardware calibrated CRT monitor is not worth it.

I got the verry expensive Sony MEU WX2 Monitor Engine and the propper Sony TFT Broadcast Studio Monitor that comes with it here.
Even with Sonys Color Thru andwhatnot technology, compared with the Sony GDM FW900 Triniton 24" CRT that sits right next to it, the TFT is a bad (expensive) joke.

Color banding in gradiants, no propper black (rather dark grey), no brilliance, way to high contrast, muddy color..... you name it. And I tried to calibrate it as best a possible, took me hours to get a half decent picture.

On the other hand. Most poeple will see your films on even worse 6 bit home displays - so, who cares?

thats exactly what i was thinking....people who view your work do not have calibrated monitors...so who's gonna see it the way you really intended? 1 out of 30 people? maybe less. sometimes i cant figure out what all the fuss is about. spending so much for tools that wouldnt really matter in the end because you cant control where the viewer watches the output.

still...you spend so much time on editing...on perfecting the look of your film/video...of course you'd want to be as accurate as you can. its a tough decision....

but if anybody can relay any information on how a calibrated monitor displays color relative to a TV, please do share. peter majtan from scarletuser told me he's color graded feature film projects on the an ACD calibrated with just an i1 display 2 (not that this is his usual workflow, but at least it means there's a possibility), thats the reason why im asking here, to see other peoples' opinions.
