Extremely slow Vegas 9 Pro Rendering

I have got Vegas 9 Pro and as I am trying to render a 53 minutes HD footage into MPEG2 for DVD architect PAL, after rendering all night (7 hours and 35 min-only 42%), the time left as of this morning is 12 hours. Is this normal and what can I do to make things faster?

My computer specs are:

Gateway Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading Technology, 3.0GHZ, 800MHZ FSB, 2 mb L2 cache
Ram: 2 Gig (Dual Channel Memory)
Hard-Drive: 200 gig + 500 gig internal hard-drive
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT 512mb

Camcorder info: Sony HD AVCHD HDR-XR200 HDD (120gig hardrive)

Right now the resources are showing: CPU Usage 81% and PF usage 1.72 (out of 2 gig of ram). These settings are pretty much the same, they don't change unless I am doing something else in the computer.

That's kind of a slower processor. If you have a lot of FX added, on top of the frame rate/frame size change, it could explain the length of render time.

I do have a lot of transitions. I am due for an upgrade on my pc because I have had this for more than 4 years but I was wondering before I buy a new one. How do these specs sound to you for editing in Vegas?

It is being sold in BestBuy for 999. What do you think David, should I go for it?

Thank you David. I know my present computer specs aren't that good and to be honest with you I think the old Pentium 4 is handling it pretty good. The settings still stay solid at: CPU Usage 81% and PF usage 1.72 (out of 2 gig of ram). The fan is overworking and my only concern is that it will shut down the system if at a certain moment of time needs more resources.
I am down at 52% after 2 hours. Getting close, 9 more hours to go.......
