Hi guys,

I'm shopping for a windscreen and a shock mount for my AKG CK98.

I will be shooting alot of outdoors scenes in an extremely humid weather. Is the Rycote softie enough for exteriors? Or should I get a blimp system? How cheap can I get for the blimp? Anything I should avoid shopping from ebay?

Thanks!

They do create a pocket of air, but they are not designed to be impermeable... might help a bit since they have tightly woven "plastic" hair, but they are not expected to stop the flow gas but slow it... right?

What do you mean by tropical humidity? I have shot with Schoeps on India during Monson season, with Neumann on Bolivian jungle, with Sanken in Nicaragua jungle, nothing happens. I shot inside a cave with a creek running underneath in Spain (extremely dry country) and Schoeps die on me. Being exposed to normal levele of humidity on the air is not going to do anything, but at 100% humidity the blimp is not going to protect your microphone.
Feel your bathtub with hot water, close the bathroom, let the room gets all steamy until your mirror is impossible to use, leave your AKg inside and test it.

Tropical? Well... I'd find some guys out of Miami and ask them about the rainy season... 90% + humidity for several months straight so if it works for them it will work for you. I'd say yes cause people shoot there year-round... that is tropical... and Rafa supports it.

I'd skip the bathroom testing but if you are traveling and need to know you'll be good to go then go for it... but clouds of steam are more than what you'll find occurring naturally other than rain hitting black rocks or asphalt. Still, the shower would take it beyond that, just don't push it too much... :)

It makes sense, I always thought it would be the same setup, only waterproof and tuned differently. Still, I wouldn't give my "air" mics a steam bath unless they caught a cold. :)

Hey guys,

So I have decided to get a softie for my CK98/SE300

Using the product search in Rycote's website I get the suggestion of getting the Medium hole Softie. But the mic is about 19mm, shouldn't I get the small hole one?

Thanks guys in advance!

bump....need your opinion before I buy it...

Should I get the small or medium hole softie for the se300??
