Extremely ghetto mattebox

I've been getting some glare on the lense lately, so I decided to fix it.

Behold: The world's most ghetto matte box.

Made of cardboard and electrical tape.

A matte box blocks out light entering the lens incorrectly. This light does not form an image and causes the image to flare and reduce in contrast. Matte boxes also hold filters, often multiple stages. It allows for filters to be quickly swapped and removed.

You can test this by pointing your camera towards a light while keeping it just out of frame. Then use your hand to cover the corner the light is shining from like a flag. This is an extreme example but generally this is happening all the time, though to a lesser degree.

In my opinion the most important thing in front of your camera is the lens, after that a matte box. From my experience it makes a huge difference, just wish the damn things were not so expensive.

DIY matte boxes are tough, and I have not seen a lot of real attempts (if any) other than basic lens hoods.
