Extreme Close Ups, hard to focus with 200mm lens

Forgive the ignorance.

A few times now I've tried to shoot something like an insect or tip of a pencil with my 200mm lens and I can't focus all the way. In order to get the shot I have to back up my camera so far I might as well just shoot with a 50mm lens.

Is this normal? or do I need to adjust the back focus on my Blade? or do I possible have something else out of whack?

Thanks,

Your lens probably has a relatively long MOD (minimum object distance). You would normally attach close-up diopter lenses to the front to get it to focus closer. You can occasionally cheat by throwing the backfocus way out of whack, but you'll have to re-set it for proper use before doing any other types of shots.

Ok thanks. As long as it's normal I can deal with it. I was just wondering if there was something that I was doing wrong.
