Extracting from dvd

Hey guys,

I have a few video dvds and I want to extract some of the footage from these to make a reel. Can anyone help me with how to get those files from the dvd so I can bring them intp fcp. Is there a program I need? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I second ThreeBoys: I've had good success with Handbrake.

Streamclip is a little less stable in my experience, but is a little more tweakable. Handbrake has a few really useful options that push it to the top of the stack for me, including the ability to crop out letterboxing/pillarboxing, and a pretty doggone good deinterlacer.
 
Ditto here with Handbrake. It's pretty stable with a wide range of settings tha allow you to balance speed with quality.
