Extra/bench power supply

:)I now have my new DVX100 for four days and already 16 hrs on the meter - playing and testing...

???I am looking for a "bench" power supply I can plug directly into the power socket on the back of the camera. I like to leave my charger and cables in my bag and want to just take out the camera, set it next to the computer and plug in a power cable and firewire and go, without having to unpack the stock charger. Same with my studio - wires for mics, remote, monitor, etc. are strapped to the camera mount so I just have to plug in the camera. Now I still have to haul the power supply from place to place. I'd like to avoid that.

Any suggestions? How tolerant is the camera of power attached to the socket? Can I just get a power supply from Jameco or Fry's that is close to 7.9vdc and plug it in?

Is there someone that makes a power supply specifically for this camera. I've searched the posts and they deal with chargers - I don't need a charger - I have them a-plenty.

Also, can I just take a power cable from the power supply directly from the charger and go into the power socket without using the silly little connector that looks like a super skinny battery. I have larger fingers and its a real pain to put in and out.

Thanks

Re: Extra/bench power supply

Yes you can. Any DC Power supply rated at least 10W DC (7V-8V) should work. There is a DC In jack on the camera, that you can see once you remove the battery. You need to make a cable with a small DC plug mating to that jack. The other end of the cable will depend on what the Power Supply terminals are. Watch for polarity - double check before plugging the camera in!
