External video issue in FCP 6.0.1

Hey guys,

Hopefully someone will have a creative solution for this:

Gear I'm using:

- My Mac is a Dual 2.0 G5 with a ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card (dual DVI out)
- Primary monitor is a Viewsonic 1700w (DVI in)
- Vizio LCD HDTV as my external monitor for FCP 6.0.1 playback (RGB in, via a DVI-RGB adapter plugged to the video card)

I set my playback to Digital Cinema Desktop Preview, and then I hit apple+F12 to enable All Frames. The current frame shows up on my Vizio. It is a nice, crisp, clean image - just I what I was looking for for color correction and client playback.

Here's the rub: it won't actually play back video. When I try to play video, the playhead moves in the Timeline and I can hear the audio, but the video in the Canvas and on my Vizio are frozen. As soon as I pause it, both update to the current frame again.

I have looked through the manual, searched online, and finally just about given up. Help?

Are you selecting "All Frames" (Apple+F12) or "Single Frame". Possibly a re-install of Final Cut would fix this. May just be a small bug.

I am definitely selecting all frames. I have made sure of this by selecting it from the View menu manually.

Reinstalling Final Cut is not really what I want to do, especially since I can't get to the discs again until Monday. Also, I would assume that others would have experienced it if it were indeed a bug in FCP... Thanks for your reply, Nick.

In case anyone ever finds this thread again...

I fixed it. Here's everything I did:

- replaced the DVI to RGB cable with a DVI to HDMI cable and ran that into the TV. Still didn't work.

- Updated FCP to 6.0.2 and Quicktime to 7.4.1. Still didn't work.

- Reinstalled FCP, then updated again to 6.0.2. Still didn't work.

- Trashed my FCP Preferences. VOILA!! WORKS!

Now if I can just get this HDTV monitor calibrated so that I can do some decent CC work... Anyone have tips that don't involve buying MXO or Aja Kona card??
