External Video in 24p

I seem to be having a problem with my external video playback while editing on a 23.98 timeline. The test footage i am working on was shot 24p, i reverse telicined in cinama tools and the footage looks good in FCP, but the video will not playback on my external monitor. When i stop the video, the still image of the frame i stopped on shows up on the external monitor, but once it starts to play, nothing.

Is this because the video signal is not running at 29.97 thus the monitor (sony trinitron) cant display it? Is there anyway to fix this so i can monitor the video externally?

How are you playing it out to the monitor? FCP will add a 3:2 pulldown in realtime to generate a 29.97 signal to Firewire if it's connected with a compatible DV deck or camera and Output to DV device, all frames is selected. Also hit Shift-Z in the Canvas to make sure video is set to fit to window.

Thanks for responding Noah.

Everything seems to be right but i am still having the problem. All frames is checked, I have set video in the canvas to fit window. As for my connection, My Mac is connected to a Sony DVCAM DSR-30 Deck via firewire then to a sony trinitron monitor.

Don't know if this would come into play but I am using FCP 4.5.

Perhaps i will try and connect it to my DVX and see if it plays back there...

After further review.....

I tried hooking up to my DVX. Same issue, Still frame from timeline shows up, and when i hit play it stays on that fram on the monitor/camera.

BUT..... When i play the 23.98 clip in the viewer, it plays on the monitor/camera! So FCP is indeed adding the 3:2 pulldown, but for some reason i cant monitor the canvas/timeline.
