I'm currently editing a feature in FCP, shot on the DVX 100A in 24p advanced, removed pulldown for 23.98, and using a firewire external video out to preview rough cuts on a standard TV. We had to shoot some video to superimpose on a tv in a couple of scenes, which we shot in 29.97 to make it look more like tv video, and we drop it in the timeline and let the multi-format timeline work its magic (just a rough composite, we'll do the final comp in AE)
This works well except for one shot. We cut away to a close-up shot of the bottom of the tv, because an actor comes in and hits the button to turn the tv off. We blew up the tv footage proportionally, so part of it hangs off the edge. When it cuts away from that shot, the firewire output freaks out on playback, and flashes between every other frame to the last frame of that comp. To fix it, I have to pause playback every time it happens, go to view-refresh external AV devices. It used to randomly happen once in a blue moon, but this is the first time I've encountered this problem in a consistent spot.
Any ideas as to how to make this stop? I really dont want to pull that comp out, (even though it's a rough cut and I GUESS I can...)
