"on the whole external thing.. the best solution i have found is using bare external SATA drives externally, by routing a SATA and SATA power cables out the back to the top of the case. its not the pretiest.. but it is the fastest, and the easiest and cheapest solution. you can buy bottom plates for bare drives from wiebletech so you dont mess with the bottom childboard."
I found this when I did a search about finding the cheapest but most healthy Raid 0 options for my Mac G5. I found the plates mentioned http://www.wiebetech.com/products/misc.php
but I could not find power cables to match the 18" lengths of the estata cables. All I found were 6" max.
I was wondering how you did it and how many drives a G5 can safely power. I also wonder about locking the drives down, do they move from the vibration?
I like this solution for the 4 drive array I want to build but I do worry about heat build up, movement and power taps avaible.
I hope I put this in the right thread?
