External RAID 5 recommendations

I've just about had it with one of our RAID systems. It's an Enhance Technologies S8MS rackmount SAS RAID. It's worked perfectly for the last 3 years and now it's eating drives. Just came back from service and it just failed again. The service guys there said they tested it and it passed after they replaced the backplane. It also has all new drives in it. We've got 2 others and they run fine (they do eat a drive every couple of months though). Anyway, what are you guys using? Can you recommend any other system? I've had it ...waiting 8 hours to rebuild the array every couple of days. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Hi Arniepix,
We're using the RocketRaid 3522 and Seagate ST31000528As drives. Both the card and drives were spec'd from Enhance Tech. I just got off the phone with them and they said it sounds like there are additional defective backplanes that need replaced.

Try swapping out your RocketRaid for an Atto or Areca card. The Highpoint cards are garbage.

Also, that Seagate drive is not an "enterprise" class drive. You might have better reliability if you spend more on enterprise class drives.

Thanks. I'm starting to see that. There's zero tech support from the Highpoint people and I'm seeing that the Seagate drives aren't really made for a RAID environment. If I'm going to reinvest in new drives and a HBA, I'm seriously looking at the CalDigit or Dulce systems. Any opinion on either of them?
Thanks again.
