External Monitor For HD Use?

I have an HMC150 that I'm importing into my MacPro running Final Cut Studio 3 using the ProRes codec.

As of now, my current setup to get footage to an external monitor was Firewire going to a Sony Media converter which converted it to RCA, and the RCA wire went into a Sony Trinitron NTSC 4:3 monitor. (This is because I got the setup when still working with the DVX100A)

So, can anyone direct me where to go next? This monitor seems to have no way of detecting 16x9 footage, not even in a squeeze or matte method.

Also, assuming there is a monitor that can connect to my Mac Pro and display 16x9 ProRes images... will it be able to take RCA (or S-Video, as the Sony does that too) from the Media Converter which is connected to the MacPro via FireWire?

Thank You.

Welcome to the land of HD...where none of the tools you used for SD will work properly. Sorry. Firewire out to your media converter only works with DV. With ProRes you need an HD In/Out device, and preferrably an HD monitor or TV. Yes, these HD IO boxes/cards can downconvert the footage to SD to play on your current monitor, but then you are monitoring SD, not the full HD you shot.

The cheapest options you have are the Decklink INtensity, Intensity Pro and Matrox MXO2 Mini. And then an HDTV. All have HDMI, and the Pro and Mini have Composite and component.

With Adobe Premiere Pro you can use a DV Converter for HDV, Panasonic's P2 codec and even AVCHD. It will convert to a 16:9 aspect ratio on a SD monitor if you set it up right. The DV conveter works great if you hook it up to an HD TV also. CC is great but motion graphics might jitter a tiny bit because you only get the 720 X 480 resolution from the DV converter box. Below is a link to my system using a DV converter.

A Decklink Intensity Pro card would be better but a DV converter should still work OK.
