External Harddrive Recommendations?

[Anthony_Gilmore]

Anyone have any recommendations on a 500GB external for FCP editing? I want to capture the best quality, not so worried about speed. Just want a stable trustworthy external that doesnt come shipped with a bunch of problems.

You could go this route and just do internal RAID... not a bad bet:

Or, G-Raid is a great external solution:

if you're just capturing dv, i've had good luck with the mercury drives from other world computing. their url is www.macsales.com

I would recommend going with an internal drive or the G. Many people are now having issues with small firewire drives; but not everyone.

OWC..pretty good deal

I would like to second Discs of Tron's recommondation. I went to the Other World Computing website. The 500 GB ($417 inc. all needed cables) external drive offering is very nice and comes with a good write-up from Macworld magazine's testbench. Apparently firewire is way more efficient than eve USB 2.0. Free shipping on basic dilivery. Can't beat that!

I've been using two LaCie Triple Exteme Firewire drives (250GB each) for the last six months and they work fantastically. LaCie also makes a 500GB drive. I also have a spare 120GB internal but I bought the LaCie's because that drive fills up fast.
